Thank you for creating this web page. I am so excited about making contact with my roots! My family came from Istria and some of them live in Udine and others in Trieste. my father moved to England and we have now settled here. We have the surname Rinaldi. If anyone knew my family, I would love to get in contact with them. My granny was called Lina and she worked as a seamstress in the vilage milliners with her two sisters and her mother. Her husband (Rinaldi) was a notary republic and they also had a farm and grew grapes. i wish I had more details to share with you! We have recently been approached by the ministero delle eceonomia e delle finanze. We are apparently being offered some copensation for land lost. Does any know anything about this, or been offered anything similar. I am not sure if it is genuine or a scam. Any comments gratefully received.

Grazie e molti saluti.

Hello everybody!

My name is Giovanni Principe. My father, Mario, was born in Pola in the year 1930 and moved in 1947 with his family to Italy, in the village of Gandino, in the province of Bergamo, where I was born. It's 11 years that I live in USA and I love it. I never seen Istria but I learned a lot from my family, I even still speak the local dialect, enjoying it very much. If somebody of you knew my dad or his family don't hesitate to write me. I found this site and I can say that is very complete with a lot of information.

Oh, I almost forgot: one of my "almost" relatives, Alessandra Fusco, wrote a book titled "Tornera' l'Imperatore", where she tells the story of a girl from Pola, told inside the years immediately before and after the war. I read the book in Italy but I don't know if is available also in the States. Must read it.

For now, I want only to say hello to all of you, that even if are unknown to me, I consider a little bit my family.

Ciao.
Giovanni

Hello, I'm searching news about family Škorja (or Scoria) that has emigrated from Koper to Villa Ballester in Buenos Aires. The first to move was my great-grandfather Giovanni Skorja (or Ivan-Janez Škorja/Scoria) in 1929. He was born in Koper around 1895/1896 and he died in 1965. His wife Anna (or Ana) Riosa remained in Koper until she died in 1988. Their son Giovanni (also known as Giovanìn) follows him around 1935-1936. He was born in Koper in 1919 and he had a brother and a sister called Mirko (Federico) and Carmela. Giovanìn was married first with a woman from Sicilly and after she died, he get married with a spanish or argentinian woman. He had a son called Roberto (or Robert) born around 1953. We heard no news form them since 1975. If you know them, please contact me on my e-mail address petit_upmann@libero.it or advise me who to contact in order to help find those people. Thank you in advance! Federica

Istrians watching Croatian National Television today got a rare treat. And, while checking out their live streaming link (click here), I got to see it as well.

Back in 1970, one of the most popular summer songs on the radio (in many parts of the world) was "In The Summertime," written by Ray Dorset, lead singer of the band Mungo Jerry. And over 30 years later, the song still retains popularity ... and is even marketed as a popular "ringtone" for cellphones.

Ray and his band are now in Croatia and they performed "In The Summertime" for the audience at Studio 10 in Zagreb. The video is a little choppy in places ... but, if you have broadband, click here to see the 4-minute streaming video of Mungo Jerry's performance. Or, if you only have a modem, click here and wait for the short 4-meg file to download and start playing. (RealVideo required)

Just wanted to let all know that I, Mario Martini, was born in Pola, Istria, on Dec. 8, 1941. that is why my first name is now Mario, otherwise it would have been Fulvio. But Dec. 8 is the day of Mary, Immaculate Conception.

Anyway in early 1946 my parents,I and my sister, Silva, moved to Trieste. In 1948 we moved to Varese. In Dec 1951 we came to the US and moved to East Chicago, IN, a city close to Chicago.

To this day I live in the same area. Would love to communicate with any other Istriani.

Carrissimi amici, dear friends, dragi prijateli,

https://www.istrianet.org/istria/customs/winter/epifania.htm

(HTV2)

https://tv.phazer.info/?kanalID=2&datum=2005-01-06

Nuovamente buona epifania a tutti.
